Petition Against Dismissal Notices at Solent University

Dismissal notices have been served against Steve Gough and Bob Keats; both are Senior Lecturers in Housing and are currently located in the Social Work and Housing Programme Group (FCIS).

History (summary)

The Faculty (FMAS), without prior consultation with the team or PGL, discontinued the BA (Hons) Housing and the Professional Diploma in Housing in March 2010.

UCU immediately contacted the Dean (FMAS) regarding 'potential' redundancies; and were given assurances to the contrary.

Solent UCU branch committee met last Friday, 20^th January, to discuss the dismissal notices served against Steve Gough and Bob Keats.

UCU made final representations to the Dean (FCIS) on Wednesday 18^th January 2012, following 15 weeks of frenzied activity from 'at risk' to dismissal; but the Dean was disinclined to rescind the dismissal notices.

Steve will be dismissed on the 31st January; and Bob, similarly, at the end of April.

Action:

1. Sign the petition. Support the formal request to the Vice - Chancellor to reinstate Steve and Bob.
