Dear Presidente Sebastián Piñera and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon :
Rapa Nui is the most remote place on the planet where civilization has flourished. For nearly 2000 years, the Rapanui people have been master engineers, artists, and survivalists. During the past 100 years Chile colonized Rapanui and has been responsible for repeated human rights violations. Today the Rapanui are being threatened with extinction at the hands of Chilean armed forces.
We, the undersigned, call upon the government of Chile to protect the rights and lives of the Rapanui people; pledge full cooperation to expedite decolonization; adhere to international standards of negotiations without threat of force or duress; withdraw armed forces and criminal charges; and, restore title to the Rapanui of their ancestral lands.
It is in the best interest of all concerned to bring this situation to a peaceful and just conclusion, without further delay.
